BASKETBALL CELEBRITY GAMES

Sultan Prospects have hosted an annual Basketball Celebrity Game since February 2002 and have enjoyed incredible success. The annual game is held to raise additional funds for travelling expenses throughout the year. Along with the help of local Celebrities, the club was able to raise approximately $4,500.00 at the latest event held on Saturday February 26, 2005 at Sheridan College in Oakville.

The Celebrity game is held as part of a Major Midget Girls Basketball Tournament and is the highlight on the Saturday night. This year's tournament was won by St. Catharines CYO Rebels defeating the Mississauga Monarchs in the finals on the day following the Celebrity Game.

This year was the fourth Celebrity Game and the most successful. Attendance was over 900 guests who enjoyed the game along with music supplied by Superfly Entertainment and several raffles throughout the evening. Special Guests Michael "Pinball" Clemons and Rafer "Skip To My Lou" Alston kept the crowd entertained and both the Juvenile Boys team and Celebrity team put on a great game that came down to the wire. Other Celebrities included: Sherman Hamilton, Basketball Canada and Raptor TV., Adrion "Pee Wee" Smith, Toronto Argonauts defensive back, Orlondo Steinauer, Toronto Argonauts defensive back, Mark McKoy, World class hurdler, Phil "Dr. Dix" Dixon, Nike Battlegrounds Champion, the members of In Essence and Damon Allen, 2004 Grey Cup MVP. Other special guests included Rafael Arujo and Pape Saw from the Toronto Raptors.

Part of the event is to reward student athletes who work hard on the court and in the classroom. The awards are presented at half time of the Celebrity Game by Pinball Clemons and this year's award winners are: Stephanie Topic - St. Catherines CYO Rebels, Meaghan Callahan - Niagara Falls Red Raiders, Carly Goupil - Niagara Falls Red Raiders, Courtney Black - Kingston Magic, Gillian Mays - London 86ers, Lacy Droste - Girlballer #2, Megan Vickery - Oakville Vytis #2, Tamara Vasic - Sultan Prospects, Jackelyn Lau - Sultan Prospects, Brittany MacDonald - Sultan Prospects, Kayla MaDougall - Cornwall Lions #1, Karen Bremner - KW Lightning, Amy O'Brien - Burlington Panthers #2 and Jennifer Pratt - Burlington Panthers #2. Congratulations to all of the winners.

Sultan Prospects would like to thank Sheridan College for allowing us to host this event annually, Roy and Pauline Tatham for cooking and selling meals all tournament long, all of the competing tournament players and parents, our parents and players for all of their hard work before, during, and after the event, everyone who donated raffle prizes, the Celebrities for being with us, Miranda Dela Cruz for signing the National Anthem and all of our guests.

Plans have already been made to work on next year's event and we hope that it will be bigger and more successful.
