SULTAN PROSPECTS 2006/07 ROSTER
#1 – Jasmine Lewin – Brampton, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: July 17, 1990
Height: 5’ 8”
Weight: 152 lbs.
High School: St. Edmund Campion Catholic Secondary

Neves on Jasmine
Jasmine is a strong floor general with all of the tools; she handles the ball very well, sees the floor and can shoot out to 3-point range with consistency. This is her coming out year and expectations are high. This organization has been fortunate to have very good guards and Jasmine is the next in a short but rich history.

#2 – Kareesa McQueen – Oakville, Ontario
Position: Guard/Forward
Born: December 18, 1991
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 150 lbs.
High School: Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary

Neves on Kareesa
Kareesa is the youngest member of the 17U team, but already has the tools to contribute off the bench. Traditionally we’ve had athletic posts that can get down the floor and finish; Kareesa will fill that spot, but will also be asked to play the guard position to develop her perimeter skills. She has the ability to hit the short jumper and rebounds well on the offensive end.

#3 – Emily Crate – Mississauga, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: May 1, 1990
Height: 5’ 11”
Weight: 135lbs.
High School: Erindale Secondary School

Neves on Emily
Emily is a long lean player who is still learning to play the guard position at a high level and expectations were high until a shoulder injury sidelined her. Emily could be out as long as 6 months, but the plan is to rehab during the season, have her understudy Brittany MacDonald and step in that position starting in the summer of 2007. Emily has the potential to be a huge contributor starting next summer.

#4 – Lisa-Marie Curti – Richmond Hill, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: May 3, 1989
Height: 5’ 7”
Weight: 150lbs.
High School: St. Theresa of Liseux Catholic Secondary

Neves on Lisa-Marie
Lisa is one of the most competitive players I’ve ever coached male or female. She takes incredible pride in performing well and always wears her heart on her sleeve. Lisa is a great passer with incredible court sense and although she looks to pass first she can shoot the ball out to 3-point range consistently. She’s a strong soccer player that can play both sports at the next level.

#6 – Kalyna Blum – Toronto, Ontario
Position: Guard/Forward
Born: March 30, 1990
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 133lbs.
High School: Humberside Collegiate

Neves on Kalyna
Having moved to Toronto from Montreal Kalyna will initially rely on her outgoing nature and work ethic until she can work her way into a role on the team. Kalyna is in transition from Forward to Guard, which is the toughest to do, but she’s very athletic with good fundamental perimeter skills and ideally will play more guard than post this season in preparation for her graduating year.

#7 – Tamara Vasic – Maple, Ontario
Position: Forward
Born: October 20, 1989
Height: 6’ 0”
Weight: 190lbs.
High School: St. Elizabeth Catholic Secondary

Neves on Tamara
Tamara is our best post player with her back to the basket. She has multiple strong post moves inside and shoots very well out to the elbows. Tamara has a knack for the ball and finishes very well around the basket. She’s one of the smartest basketball players I’ve ever coached and understand positioning very well.

#8 – Nina Zovic – Mississauga, Ontario
Position: Guard/Forward
Born: July 20, 1989
Height: 5’ 10”
Weight: 145lbs.
High School: St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Secondary

Neves on Nina
Nina has always played inside and this season she will have to play more on the perimeter with our strength inside. She has very good shooting range out to 15 feet and will give us a strong rebounding presence on both the offensive and defensive ends from the guard spot.

#10 – Emily Quinn – Oakville, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: April 20, 1991
Height: 5’ 5”
Weight: 140lbs.
High School: St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary

Neves on Emily
Emily is one of our young guards and she is expected to step in and contribute right away. She’s coming off a good summer and I feel that she understands our systems very well. She sees the floor well and lets the game come to her, rarely forcing or making bad decisions. Emily will be a key contributor this season with very high expectations starting next summer.

#12 – Vanessa Bonomo – Dundas, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: April 12, 1991
Height: 5’ 4”
Weight: 115lbs.
High School: St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary

Neves on Vanessa
We’ve had small guards in the past who have enjoyed great success and Vanessa is in the same strong mould. She’s very skilled in all areas and understands her role. Another of our young guards Vanessa will be expected to contribute right away. Although I think she will be compared to others from the past within the club, Vanessa will create her own special identity.

#14 – Brittany MacDonald – Toronto, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: August 24, 1989
Height: 5’ 11”
Weight: 145lbs.
High School: Northern Secondary School

Neves on Brittany
Brittany has played with some of the best players in Canada the last 2 seasons and this is her team for the taking. A long guard who can also play inside, she brings strong leadership to a young team. Brittany is a special player and I feel that she will have an exceptional season, doing what ever it takes to bring success to this team. She has the ability to do it all and that’s what I expect from her this year.

#15 – Denver McLean-Johnson – Brampton, Ontario
Position: Forward
Born: November 28, 1990
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 165lbs.
High School: Mayfield Secondary School

Neves on Denver
Denver can and will be one of the best post players to come out of this organization. She is powerful inside and can beat her man off the dribble or with a short jumper. Her knowledge of the game and confidence is growing every day; the sky’s the limit for this incredibly talented student athlete. She needs and is expected to dominate in every aspect of the post game this season.

#22 – Maria Suriani – Hamilton, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: March 3, 1989
Height: 5’ 4”
Weight: 131lbs.
High School: Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary

Neves on Maria
Maria is coming off a strong summer and although she’s very quiet on the court she bring strong leadership through example. She’s a very good shooter who distributes the ball well in transition. Maria works very hard on the defensive end and quietly goes about her business during the game. She will be expected to contribute in key situations because of her experience.

#23 – Kayla Suriani – Hamilton, Ontario
Position: Guard
Born: February 26, 1991
Height: 5’ 41/2”
Weight: 130lbs.
High School: Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary

Neves on Kayla
Kayla is another of our young guards who will be expected to contribute right away. She has all the tools and will develop into a key player throughout the season. She understands her role and works hard on both ends of the floor. Kayla is a big part of our future and that future starts this season.

#32 – Amanda Edwards – Brampton, Ontario
Position: Forwards
Born: December 22, 1989
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 175lbs.
High School: Notre Dame Catholic Secondary

Neves on Amanda
Amanda has worked hard for the past 2 seasons and finally should be rewarded this season. She recently committed to attend Howard University in the fall of 2007 and along with Tamara and Denver will establish our dominance inside. She is very athletic with developing finer skills in the post. Dominance will be her only expectation this year with a very good supporting cast.
